Promote the "Win-Win Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project" jointly with district heating users
Korea District Heating Corporation has implemented a greenhouse gas reduction project under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and shared the reduction (carbon credit) with apartments to contribute to the spread of low-carbon culture and co-prosperity of the community.

Greenhouse gas reduction effect when using the district heating system

  1. Central-Heating apartment : Greenhouse gas emission of 23.5 tons based on 100 Gcal use
  2. District-Heating apartment : Greenhouse gas emission of 14.8 tons based on 100Gcal use (37% emission↓)

Implementation of greenhouse gas reduction by expanding the use of low-carbon energy sources
Korea District Heating Corporation is constantly replacing the fossil fuels used in the production of heat and electricity with renewable energy and bio-energy. We are taking the lead in reducing greenhouse gas emission through efforts to supply clean energy produced from landfill gas, solar energy, wood biomass, etc.

Promotion of “inclusive greenhouse gas reduction project” that can create environmental and social values
Korea District Heating Corporation has distributed a high-efficiency cooking utensil (Cookstove) to Myanmar to reduce greenhouse gas and improve the quality of life of its citizens. By reducing the amount of firewood used for cooking through the supply of cooking stove, we are contributing to the prevention of forest damage and improvement of the residents’ living conditions.
Development of Eco-friendly Carbon Dioxide Reduction Technology for Low-Carbon Society
Korea District Heating Corporation is developing carbon dioxide collection and carbon resource conversion technology, including eco-friendly photosynthetic reaction, without using harmful substances to suit the characteristics of the group energy business in a densely populated urban area.
As an alternative to conventional carbon dioxide reduction technologies (wide installation site, high processing cost, reduced power generation efficiency, and adsorption), we will install eco-friendly hybrid technology (collection using separation membrane + carbon resource development through microalgae and mineralization) with low processing cost, minimization of generation efficiency loss, and possibility of installing on a small site for the first time since 2023.

CO2 Collection and Carbon Resourceization Technology suitable for the Group Energy project

  1. Hiflux separation membrane process
  2. Mineral Carbonation (CO2 Processing Efficiency of 70% to 80%)
  3. 3 Micro-algae photoculture process (CO2 Processing Efficiency: 30%)

① (Hiflux separation membrane process) Carbon Dioxide Collection Technology Using Gas Separation Membrane
- (Compact collection) Collection and separation by passing exhaust gas through the gas separation membrane at high speed due to differences in gas composition size and permeability speed.

② Technology to convert CO2 into harmless, stable solid
- Carbonates (calcium fine dust, dry material) such as CaCO3 and MgCO3 are produced by the mineralization reaction of Ca, Mg in the construction byproduct(slag, waste concrete) with CO2 in the exhaust gas.

③ (Microalgae photo-culture process) Technology to reduce CO2 by biological conversion through eco-friendly photosynthetic reaction between microalgae and sunlight and convert it into high-value substance.
